The Grammar School at Leeds: Website vision and tender specification

The Grammar School at Leeds were keen to redevelop their website, but before getting stuck in they wanted to review their existing website performance, and set a new, user-first strategic vision for their website.

In August 2022, we were commissioned to conduct the review and research that would enable us to produce the vision and tender specification for the school's web redevelopment.

As their budget was relatively modest, we worked in partnership with them to define the approach and framework for the research required, for them to then conduct it. This included:

  • Google Analytics audit and review

  • Website accessibility and performance audit

  • Top task and user stories workshop

  • Website intercept survey to identify top tasks and audiences

  • User engagement insights gathering via heatmaps and scrollmaps

  • Framework for a content audit of top 100 GSAL pages

  • Review and recommendations for multimedia use (image and video)

  • User interface review and recommendations

  • Website content strategy vision development

  • Initial wireframe concepts for GSAL website refactor

The result of this was a clear, user-first strategic vision for the new website which included key success criteria for the new website and specific recommendations relating to content design and functionality. A website redevelopment brief was also prepared by us, for the school to put out to tender for the agency to develop the website further.

Helen Clapham, Director of External Relations at The Grammar School at Leeds, said:

The discovery work with Pickle Jar enabled us to better understand the needs and behaviours of prospective parents on our website and design. This work not only informed our website tender, but also ensured decisions on design, functionality and content for the new website were always made with the user's experience in mind
